As long as you ignore the distinction between “dream” and “meta-history”, you’re more or less in the same conceptual ballgame, with layers upon layers of reality stacked on top of each other. I think there’s even a flat-out “dream-within-a-dream” reference in Desmond’s first extended sequence.
